Here is an example of an improvement project that was successfully completed earlier this year.
Exmouth Matters’ gathered over 100 signatures from Exmouth residents and visitors at the Harbour View Café in spring 2025, calling for improvements to the unsafe and unsightly steps from the café to the beach. The steps had been closed off for months, with only a temporary red barrier in place and no plans for repair or replacement.
After EDDC, Beach Manager Peter Blyth was contacted, he responded positively and confirmed that the unsafe steps would be removed and replaced with a permanent fence panel. Rebuilding the steps was ruled out due to frequent high tides that would have regularly submerge them. An alternative beach access point may be created at the terrace’s right-hand corner, offering shelter and safety.
The old steps have now been removed, and a local supplier has installed the new fence. A proposal for new beach access will go to the 2026 Council budget. Exmouth Matters' thanked supporters, noting this success shows how public action can achieve positive change.
